What are Cross-Trade Pilots?

Cross-Trade Pilots provide a new pathway to advanced standing in apprenticeship for trades workers with certification or significant experience in a related trade.

The Pilots are skills assessment, training and employment support programs for trades workers in British Columbia seeking certification in a pilot trade they already have experience with through any of the following:

  • certification in a related trade
  • s ignificant experience working in the target or a related trade
  • international training and experience in the target or a related trade

Cross-Trade Pilots are available for those seeking advancement in one of the following trades:

  • Automotive Service Technician
  • Diesel Engine Mechanic
  • Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
  • Truck and Transport Mechanic
  • Welder
Program participants must have certification or significant experience in one of the trades related to their chosen pilot trade.



Benefits for Employers

By participating in Cross-Trade Pathways you will be able to:

  • improve your workforce by supporting your current employees to seek certification in an additional, related trade OR certify in a trade they have significant experience and knowledge in
  • find and evaluate experienced trades workers through participating in defined-term work placement employment

Participating in Cross-Trade Pathways has no cost to employers above wages for employed participants
