Same Skills.
Different Trades.
New Opportunities.

... because trade skills are transferable.

About the Project

Providing innovative solutions to address barriers within the trades training system.

This project supports apprentices and journeypersons by evaluating and recognizing skills and experience across trades that have similar skill and training requirements

We are developing new pathways to overcoming barriers in completing certification by identifying skills across trades to meet changing labour market requirements.

Building on past experience with project partners, this project will provide innovative solutions to address barriers within the trades training system.

This project will also create supports for current apprentices and challengers in project trades who are seeking success in Standard Level Exams or the Red Seal exam.

We are:

Developing a process for training pathways that recognize skills for a related or new trade when upskilling and reskilling.

Leveraging existing technology, Shift iQ, to make the platform accessible for internationally trained tradespersons and others requiring gap training, such as Canadian trades workers challenging certification

Providing training on mentorship, acceptable worksite behaviour, and cultural safety to improve worksite training and culture

Promoting a strategy that will include a focus on reaching women and Indigenous tradespersons.

Developing tools and materials that use national trade standards, intended for use across Canada
